Projectile High Point
Press the play button to fire a projectile in the direction of the arrow. Move the arrow and try again. Notice the high points of the trajectory lie on an ellipse.  If the initial velocity of the projectile is v, and gravity is g, what is the equation of the ellipse?

Projectile Focus
You are shooting a projectile on a sloping field.  Drag the red point to change the angle of the projectile and try and maximize |AB|. Click the button to see the focus of the parabola. What do you notice?

Ball Throw Modeled with Mechanical Expressions
A simulation of a projectile created using Mechanical Expressions. The Mechanical Expressions model for a projectile involves constraining the coordinates of the point, giving the coordinates velocity (vx,vy) and setting the constraint to be free to accelerate. A mass has to be given to the point. Simulating the motion is done in the app.

Maximum range on a slope
It turns out that (ignoring air resistance) the projectile with the maximum range on a sloping plane follows a parabolic trajectory where the focus of the parabola lies on the plane. Drag the red point to change the slope of the plane.  Use the slider to change the muzzle velocity. Can you infer from the properties of a parabola that the initial direction of the projectile bisects the angle between the sloped plane and the vertical?

Ball Throw Modeled with Geometry Expressions
The path of the ball as a function of time has been specified in Geometry Expressions as: (t⋅vx ,  t⋅vy - g⋅t2/2) In this app, you can set the initial velocity x component vx and y component vy. g is 9.8

Trebuchet
The Trebuchet attains a higher velocity for the projectile launch when it is mounted on wheels. In this model, the projectile weighs 1 kg.  You can change the weight of the counterweight and of the trebuchet frame. To model the situation where the trebuchet is not mounted on wheels, make the frame extremely heavy.
